Who are the Sens after?

Who are the Sens after?

As much as I like to watch Olympic Hockey, I’m still 100% a fan of the Ottawa Senators and watching the NHL, so with that, the next week will become extremely interesting. Not just because the super-powers of the world will be playing in Vancouver for Gold, but also because when the NHL resumes, there will be a mere 72 hours until the trade deadline is done

Sens fans, coaching and success

It just reinforces the value of coaching and team chemistry. We may not have the greatest lineup but we’re getting more out of them than others, making us a better team

Ottawa Senators injuries do not seem to be too substantial

We want Average!

We want Average!

16 wins, 11 losses and 4 OT/SO losses: good for 6th place in the Eastern Conference and within spitting distance of the NE division lead. Now imagine what that record would look like if Jason Spezza had more than the 3 goals he went into last night with? How about Alex Kovalev and his 4 goals?

Sens set to face the Lords of the regular season

Sens set to face the Lords of the regular season

This is what a lot of us circled on the calender when the schedule first came out. The first thing the Ottawa Senators had to do was compete hard in the first 20+ games of the season and put themselves in a playoff spot by December 1st. Check. They’ve played hard, they’ve competed hard, almost everyone is contributing, things are healthily moving forward.

Ryan Keller gets the call to Ottawa + other quick thoughts

Ryan Keller gets the call to Ottawa + other quick thoughts

Ryan Keller will get his chance to play an NHL game soon – if not tonight. This is a nice story for fans who followed Keller and his drive to get into the NHL. As an undersized forward, Keller has had to fight his way through adversity the whole time.

Leclaire saves Sens bacon

Leclaire saves Sens bacon

If not for Pascal Leclaire – someone who I’ve been highly critical of lately – the Sens would not have beaten the Leafs in regulation. They might not have beat them at all actually.

The Sens: Decision 2010 on the blueline

Now’s the time for Bryan Murray and his scouts to make a major decision – and time’s ticking down on them to make it. They have to huddle around and decide if this is the time to attempt to acquire that elusive number one D-man or risk this being the second consecutive season they miss the playoffs. What decision, right?

The Sens need to stay the course through injuries

No one should be complaining in Ottawa to be perfectly honest.   This year’s laundry list of injuries to key players in the NHL is something to behold.   An all-star team really.  However, with Jason Spezza missing his third straight game tomorrow vs the Tampa Bay Lightning and Anton Volchenkov already on the shelf for the [...]

Sens lose Volchenkov – but how long?

Word is that Anton Volchenkov’s injury is more serious than originally feared.  Brian Lee has indeed been called up from Binghamton and Tim Murray was heard saying that this won’t be a short term thing for ‘A-Train’.
I’ll try to keep CTC updated when I hear of more concrete news, but as of right now, look [...]

Sens defeat Panthers, refs

The officiating in last night’s game between the Senators and the Panthers was nothing less than brutal.  I’m not really one to complain about officiating, it’s a tough job and you’d be remiss to accuse anyone of cheating lest you have the full facts at your disposal.  However, there’s no excuse for poorly reffed games [...]

The Sens find new ways to beat themselves

It’s hard to judge the Ottawa Senators right now.  They can excite you in a hurry, but they can disappoint you in a hurry these last two games.  Watching the Nashville 6-5 OT loss on Thursday, a fan would have gone through several stages of emotions.  First, frustration.  Why the heck are the Sens down [...]
