Paul Martin close to Devils return

Paul Martin’s comeback is getting closer.

After taking part in Monday’s morning skate, the Devils defenseman said there is a slim chance of playing in Thursday night’s game in Toronto.

“Yeah, there’s a possibility,” Martin said. “I don’t know what the odds would be on that.”

More likely, he’ll wait until Saturday night’s home game against the St. Louis Blues.

Martin’s left forearm and wrist will be examined today in Manhattan by Dr. Charles Malone and he will then undergo more therapy with Gary Flink in Hackensack. Malone is the director of the hand surgery division of Beth Israel Medical Center.

“Gary said he wants to see me a couple more days before he makes a decision,” Martin said. “Right now I can’t shoot (with full power) because the strength is lacking.”
