Kings State of the Union Address …

Kings State of the Union Address …

There isn’t a Fun Fact for the Game tonight. This is not a “game day” blog. Although there is, of course, game day thoughts. If I’m being honest, there aren’t THAT many straight facts here. I mean, yeah, there is knowledge, and facts because you can’t write about a team or league or sports if you don’t know about them. And I do try to include a lot of facts. I’m an emotional person in general. I’ve noticed that Kings fans, (not all, of course, bless their hearts) like myself, tend to lean towards the… wired type to begin with <I fit that way>. So, I do try to back-up my spirited nature <nice.. spirited… vivid, even… HA!> with facts.

Think of tonight’s entry as more of a response to the, “Didn’t I Tell You the Light at the End of the Tunnel was Attached to a Speeding Freight Train” question(s)/thought(s) being hurled through the internet, media and each other along with well-placed profanities. They started as soon as the hit heard around the league made all Kings’ fans scream… NOOOOOOOO not two minutes into the first period against the Coyotes. And then we all started pondering (again through the media, internet and each other; oh and yes, again.. many well-placed profanities).. Where have we been? Where are we now.. and less we not forget: Do we have any clue where we’re friggen’ going? Maybe AEG can afford to buy a clue, eh? Maybe not.. Beckham.. DOH! Sit-down and buckle-in; its going to be a bumpy-one.

First, let us have a heart-to-heart about fandom, shall we? Sit by the fire.. ok central heating…. Just be kind and move Anze out of your way first (who by the way, is not seeing dead people or crying at doors he cant go into today). Ok.. now.. There were a couple of words carelessly tossed around along the lines of first… “now what are the Kings going to do..” and then “who cares about the Kings.. the man is on a stretcher…”and then the obligatory.. “I care about him and his family, not what the team is going to do…” I’m just going to leave it at this. Yes, Williams went down hard (and I’ve been screaming about how under-appreciated Williams is since I started this Blog, what? Two weeks ago ;-) . However, when an injury first occurs, in that split-second at full-speed; if the player is moving <aka, in hockey that means alive because he’ll just spit the damn teeth out like a man.. aka in all other sports, isn’t crying like a baby> then your first thoughts and/or instinct is with the team. Anyone saying different is backtracking and lying.

Now of course once you realize players from both teams are circling, the game has come to a complete halt and a stretcher has been called for (or in other sports- ok I’m talkin about babaseball really– the player is sitting dumbfounded between bases staring at his fingernail) the game and team go out the window (unless you are, of course, Hannibal Lector). Why? Because it is just that: a game. So to say otherwise, without justification, is assuming the absolute worse in someone.

Furthermore, assuming death isn’t imminent and there is full mobility of any injured person; once they are away from the game and time has passed, well of course, expect talk to revolve around a) speculation b) what is the team going to do (rinse, wash, repeat) and because its the Kings… c) WE’RE CURSED and d) so what’s the first pick in the draft looking like next year, anyway? <le sigh> Will we not ever learn to keep the faith and hold tight..aka NOT ACT LIKE SENSNATION!!

Lastly (and humor me hear– although I know there is NOTHING funny about this. I’m just trying, in my own enigmatic way, to make a point) think of it this way: if the Kings were truly cursed; Kopitar would’ve been injured, too. I mean both Williams and Kopitar went down in a heap of humanity with that **** on top of them (and why that wasn’t penalized is beyond me– and don’t even get me started on his cry-babying about that little boo-boo above his eye-brow at the end of the game). Easily, both players could have been severely injured. Just sayin’..

Someone Explain This to Me…

In all honesty, I’ve always fallen on the pro-Fro side of the fence. I have no issue admitting this. Although whoever it was that came up with the toy fro-yo-yo is just fricken’ brilliant. I mean it is what it is. If Frolov is consistent at anything, at all, it is his inconsistency of attitude and play, but when he’s on, oh hell.. get outta the way.

On the same token (that was dot A, this would dot B and then I’ll connect them, so stay with me here), I made it quite clear in the last blog that while I wasn’t arguing with the masses, I did have ONE, JUST ONE Devil’s Advocate Question about benching Purcell. The extreme of benching a coddled young player (and yeah he’s been coddled too much) after an 8 day break makes no more sense to me then the extreme of now sticking him ON THE FIRST FREAKING LINE!!!!!!!! I don’t get. I have to imagine, standing in his skates <heh. Not shoes>, and admittedly I’ve never met him, he’s gotta be thinking WTF??! PICK A LANE??! And doesn’t he seem confused enough to anybody else on the ice? If I was him, my ring tone would be the classic Clash song, Should I Stay or Should I Go?

Ok, Williams is gone for an unknown but lengthy amount of time <per numerous reports, pending xrays and Drs and via Mr. Hammonds’ reporting, as reliable as always>, so someone has to replace him <and here comes the connection kids, as promised.. like the postman, I may be late as hell, but I always deliver> Frolov or even Simmonds (I don’t buy the two recently injured players shouldn’t play on the first line bit Murray is putting out there. If they are healthy, go with it) goes to the first line and unbench Purcell (probably shouldn’t have been there after an 8 day break, anyway) and put him on the second or third line (Frolov on the first or second).. but the first?? SERIOUSLY??! I don’t like it. I don’t like. I. Just. Don’t. Like. It. I don’t like it as much as most don’t like Elkins for one bad play in, what? His third game? Just doesn’t make any sense.

In closing (keep your hands and feet in the door until the ride comes to a complete stop… barf bags are at the exit ramps), for those skeptics (like me), think of this. Frolov is trade bait right now. Wouldn’t first line time get him more visibility to the league and maybe a quicker trade. OR (and this is strictly strictly strictly- did I say STRICTLY SPECULATION on my part), could Purcell be on the first line because he’s suddenly become trade bait, or of interest to a team(s)? The Kings aren’t the only banged up team in the National Hobble League. Things that you make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm….
