Blue(shirt) Monday

New York Rangers

So tonight marks the return of Brandon Dubinsky…or does it? According to several media sources, who shall remain nameless, he practiced with the team, without the don’t-hit-me colored jersey on.

Not that this means a big Rangers offensive revival is on the way. He hasn’t been out of the line-up for too long to forget he was fitting right into the general team credo: Let’s leave all of the scoring to Marian Gaborik and we’ll look like we are trying…without actually doing anything, really! In the 18 games “Dubi” put up a resounding 10 points, three of those points being goals. Looks like all of that holding out during pre-season really paid off, huh?

P.A. Parenteau is taking another trip to Hartford. But unlike last time, he might re-route his destination to parts unknown because at 500K(which is cheap in pro sports circles) he could be had for any team seeking a good…shootout participant. Let’s face it, he has had several chances to make a statement with the big club and has failed to do so. Not knocking the talent level he possesses, I just don’t don’t think it would be such a detriment if some other team takes a crack at him.

If you don’t return Mr. Parenteau, it’s been real, kid!

Speaking of realities, the thorn-in-the-side Atlanta Thrashers swoop in to M.S.G., coming off an exciting 4-3 overtime win against Montreal Canadiens.

Like Marian Gaborik has endured all season in New York, lately it has been a one-man show down in the ‘dirty dirty’. The one -man show that is Ilya Kovalchuk, of course. But, the key difference is here that Atlanta, when they were at their best, proved to be more than just a one-man gang.

The Rangers have failed to do so in 31 games this season, even when things were going well, oh so October-ago. The return of Dubinsky will not be the cure-all for all of the ills that Glen Sather has created with this imbalanced roster and I’m not expecting such a revival tonight.

I’d like to think that the sun will shine on this dog’s behind, but here in New York, it has been pretty Drury..oops I mean dreary lately.
