Thrashers Monthly Numbers

Thrashers

On the heels of back to back losses for the Thrashers I thought I’d take a look at the records to see what months we do the best in..and what months we tend to struggle. Historically for the Thrashers the months of December, January and February tend to be a little bit of a struggle at least on the surface..though the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Let’s start with the numbers and I’ll tell the story as we go.

Taking a look at month to month numbers since the lockout

October22-56 for .392 winning percentage (17-46 with .369 if not counting this season’s numbers)
October has usually been a horrendous month for the Thrashers…actually the worst month of the season. Blueland has been a land of frustration in Octobers past but not to despair Thrasher fans this October we posted a .500 record, our best since the lockout.

November35-67 for .522 winning percentage (27-53 with .509 if not counting this season’s numbers)
November heats up for the Thrashers and the month of Thanks tends to be one the Thrashers are thankful for. This season the Thrashers posted a November that Thrashers fans have become accustomed to, going 8-14 with a .571 winning percentage.

December - 25-58 for .431 winning percentage
December, the weather cools down…and so do the Thrashers. Don’t let the .431 winning percentage for the month fool you. That number was drastically pulled down from the terrible performance of last season where the team went 4-15. The previous two seasons the Thrashers were a combined 15-29 giving Blueland a .517 record. The 2005-2006 season saw a 6-14 record in Thrasherville for a .428 percentage.

January - 23-53 for .433 winning percentage
January is much like December for Blueland with the numbers being very Decemberish. You see just a bit of a drop off as the long season with all the travel begins to wear down on the players.

February - 17-41 for .414 winning percentage
February seems to be the low point during the winter for the Thrashers. The numbers are a little skewed as there was a shortened February for an Olympics, much like there will be this season. The last 2 seasons the Thrashers have posted a respectable .458 during February but the 2 seasons prior to that was a .333 which drags the overall numbers down.

March31-56 for .553 winning percentage
With March comes warmer weather and with the thawing of the Atlanta streets comes a heating up at Phillips Arena for the Thrashers. With the end of the season now in sight the Thrashers seem to push their level of play up a notch and start competing in earnest to make the post season. The Thrashers have only played one March since the lockout where they lost over half their games. The 2007-2008 season was a season to forget for so many reasons among them the terrible start in October that led to Bob Hartley’s dismissal and the lackluster 4-15 March didn’t help. The other 3 season since the lockout have been hot for the Thrashers, going 27-41 and posting a impressive .658 winning percentage.

April - 12-21 for .571 winning percentage
April marks the finish line for the regular season and the Thrashers usually finish out in style. Though the month typically doesn’t hold as many games (No more than 10 in a month since the lockout) the Thrashers tend to finish strong. Interestingly enough since the lockout the Thrashers have failed to lose a home closer also.

Looking at all these numbers IF the Thrashers hold close to their typical pattern you can expect that the they should go roughly .500 for the next couple of months and probably be a little under that for the month of February. The upside is that March and April hold a lot of home games and the Thrashers are usually pretty hot down the stretch.
