Worst call in the history of the game

Ok, i am sure there have been 1 or 2 more worse but tonight’s no goal call tonight in Detroit is one of most ridiculous missed calls in the history of the NHL. Brad May, the Detroit Red Wings, Red Wings fans and hockey fans in general were slapped in the face by a giant error by the on ice officials and war room in Toronto.
Watch the video, see it for yourself before I talk about it anymore.
“There is no goal, the whistle was blown to kill the play”
First off, the puck was in a good 2 seconds before the whistle was blown.
Did the ref say he meant to blow the whistle earlier and that’s why they called it no goal? If that’s his excuse, then why would he blow the whistle in the first place? May clearly has the puck on his backhand and takes the shot.
How could the boys in the war room miss that? How can they say the whistle was blown before the puck crossed the line?
Honestly, are they on drugs these days?
This is unacceptable in professional sports and I am embarrassed by this blown call and gigantic error by so called professionals.
this is bullshit, what a mess this was
Similar thing happened to the Preds two years back against the Red Wings – the ref “meant to whistle” a goal-scoring call dead, but didn’t…and the goal was waived off (1 of 2 in that game if I remember correctly)…though it was obviously in. The drugs they’ve been on aren’t new in the least.
It was a goal. Plain as day.
I really feel for the Wings with this. Even Alex Auld stood up and said so. It seems the officials (again) were the only ones in the building who believed it wasn’t.
I’ll take the 2 points obviously but match officiating really needs to step up. Ridiculous call.
I was watching the game live and actually had tweeted that it was definitely a goal for May & the Red Wings while the officials skated around clumsily at center ice. I understand getting a call incorrect, but they should have consulted the war room in TO to make sure the puck did / didn’t cross the line and if it did, did the whistle blow before the puck went in or not.
As for the “worst call of all-time”, I can unequivically tell you that statement is incorrect. Check out YouTube for the Islanders missed offside call during the 1980 Finals against the Flyers. Butch Goring was 2-3 FEET offsides and brought the puck back into the zone…Flyers stopped playing because of the offsides, of course the Islanders score on a surprised Flyer goaltender (Pete Peeters).
I’m sure that every fan has a “worst call of all-time” involving their favorite franchise team, but this one DIRECTLY led to CHANGING THE OUTCOME of a DECIDING CUP game. Buffalo fans will tell you the same about Brett Hull’s goal while in the Sabres’ crease in the ‘99 Finals.
