Stars affected disorder

There is a mythical illness which is supposed to affect sufferers simply depending on the weather. This illness of course is Seasonal Affected Disorder (or SAD).

To give you an example of SAD, if the weather is warm, clear blue skies overhead and you’re not wearing 4 or 5 different clothing layers you are generally in an upbeat, positive mood.

The reverse of this of course is if there is torrential rain outside and you have to wear scuba gear to just get from your house to your car, odds are you’re not going to be in the best mood about it.

I have come to the conclusion folks that I suffer from this on a slightly different scale. I have Stars Affected Disorder.

After the massive shootout win over the Sharks last week I was so optimistic for the remainder of the current road trip my boys are on and was expecting even better things against Phoenix on Saturday.

Stars win against Sharks: Whole-hearted optimism.

Stars lose to Coyotes: I now have a beast of a cold. I’m sneezing my head off, really dizzy and stuttering when I talk so ultimately, not in altogether great shape.

Yes indeed the Dallas Stars dropped a 3-2 game against the Phoenix Coyotes which now leaves us striving for any kind of consistency at all.

Our only decent win streak – in fact our ONLY win streak – so far was a two game run in October coming against St Louis and Toronto.

Up next we have the Detroit Red Wings who have recently firmly reminded everyone that they are still very much a part of the mix this season after getting off to a somewhat questionable start.

They are on a three game annihilation streak with wins over Columbus, Vancouver and Anaheim and outscoring them by a combined (and jaw-dropping) 19-8. This run leaves the Wings 6th in the West at the moment and just goes to prove you can never write Detroit off. Ever.

Dallas on the other hand have slipped to 9th in the West and really need to start turning it up and getting a good run together of consistent performances and results before we can consider ourselves worthy of a place in the last 16.

I’m gonna take off now and hang my head over something boiling hot and try to shift this cold by Wednesday after all unless I do, who knows what state I could be in come the final buzzer?!
