Devils go for their due

The New Jersey Devils will try tonight for their record-tying 10th consecutive road victory to start a season.  The Devils are absolutely on fire, winning their last 8 games overall, and 11 of their last 12.  NJ is coming off a come-from-behind win at home against the Washington Capitals Saturday night.  They trailed 2-0 after just 5 minutes, but rallied to win the game, 5-2.

The NHL record of 10 consecutive road wins to open a season was set by the 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres.  In order to tie the mark, the Devils will have to beat their long-time division rival Philadelphia Flyers.  Until Saturday’s 3-2 home loss to the Buffalo Sabres, the Flyers had been on a tear of their own, having won 5 straight.

The Flyers won the only meeting between the two teams thus far this season, a 5-2 victory in New Jersey back on October 3rd.  In that game Ray Emery stopped 24 of 26 shots, losing a shutout midway through the third period.

The Devils, and especially goaltender Martin Brodeur, won’t be intimidated playing in Philadelphia tonight.  Brodeur has had the most wins (43) against Philadelphia than any other team over the course of his career.

The game starts at 7:00 PM and will be shown nationally in the US on the Versus Network.
