Blues owner calls out his team

From Andy Strickland
When I was told Dave Checketts was about to speak Friday morning I assumed it had something to do with the organization honoring John Davidson for his recent Hall of Fame induction.
Instead DWC dropped the gloves on his own team as his words echoed through the halls of the Scottrade Center.
The words it’s “time to start winning” and “unacceptable” should be nothing but music to the ears of Blues fans worldwide. The message sent Friday morning even caused the ears on the statues of Bernie Federko and Al Macinnis to perk up. Ownership is making no secret here, you better start winning or else.
You can trust me when I say the warning shots fired by Blues Ownership weren’t directed at one person. Dave Checketts says he’s not panicking and changes aren’t necessary.
Not yet anyway.
If Checketts fully believes this team is good enough to win then he won’t put up with what took place Thursday night in the Blues embarrassing 3-1 loss at the hands of the Nashville Predators. The Blues looked more like the AAA Amateur Blues as opposed to an NHL team on Thursday. It’s been a rarity in recent years to see the Blues be consistently outworked on home ice.

The Blues have been a mystery so far this year. 3-6-1 at home, 3-1-3 on the road, most players “+/-” are heavy on the “-” side…the biggest disappointment to me has been David Backes, who towards the end of last season had looked like he was developing into a prototypical power forward in the young Keith Tkachuk / Brendan Shanahan mold when he finished the year with 31 goals and 165 PIMs – but through the first 17 games in 09-10, Backes has only 1 goal, 2 assists and 32 PIMs.
It will be interesting to see what changes are made if the lackluster play continues. The Blues have too good of a team not to be winning more consistently.
