Flames @ Sabres: Game Log — 1-1, 1st Intermission
We’re moments away from puck drop here — check back for updates. I’ll be commenting throughout the game.
Looking forward to a fantastic matchup in net between Kippers and Miller.
PERIOD 1:
1:04 — GOAL – DAYMOND LANGKOW – Calgary gets on the board fast after a defensive breakdown in the Sabres zone. Langkow moves in and taps home a puck left sitting by the net by Buffalo’s defensemen. Not a good start to the game.
– Sabres 2nd line (MacArthur – Roy – Pominville) putting on amazing pressure in the Calgary zone; defensive pairing is Myers / Tallinder. Kippers is robbing them on chance after chance.
– Montador / Sekera and Hecht / Kennedy / Kaleta showing good defensive posture.
– Mair’s second shift and a fight breaks out between him and Brandon Prust. Good on you, Adam.
– Seems like every guy on the ice crams into the crease as the 3rd line crashes the net. Buffalo on the powerplay.
16:59 — POWERPLAY GOAL – DEREK ROY – Buffalo ties it up after a dominant 1st period on a nice Derek Roy backhand shot off a rebound over a sprawling Kiprusoff. Sutter isn’t going to be happy with Prust during the intermission.
– Shot total is 17-5 in favor of Buffalo, despite the fearsome Calgary blueline. Easily one of their best periods of the year. More impressive? They’re outhitting the Flames, known for their physical play, 12-11.
