J.S Giguere set to return to Ducks lineup

It appears that Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup winner J.S Giguere will return to the Anaheim Ducks lineup this week after missing some time with a groin injury. Giguere will return as the Ducks backup to start but he wants to return being the Ducks starting goaltender.

“It seems like it took a long time, but I think it’s for the better,” Giguere said after Monday’s practice.

“I was hoping that (the recovery) would be a little bit quicker, but I got it pretty good.”

Giguere will serve as backup to Jonas Hiller for most of the trip and should see action because the Ducks will play four games in six days. They play at New Jersey on Wednesday and have back-to-back games at Columbus and Detroit on Friday and Saturday before Pittsburgh on Monday.

“I’m sure we’re going to have to use Giguere here very shortly,” Coach Randy Carlyle said. “We’ll see how things go on Wednesday in New Jersey.”

Giguere had been having groin-muscle issues leading up to the Oct.24 game against Columbus and re-injured it when he stretched trying to stop a shot by Fedor Tyutin with 3:22 remaining. Giguere left the ice, and Tyutin’s goal was the game winner.
