For the New York Islanders, all good things must come to an end

For the New York Islanders, that was the case last night in Buffalo as the Sabres gave the Islanders a taste of what had happened to them last week. Ryan Miller stood tall, making a very strong case to be the starting goaltender for Team USA at the upcoming Olympic games in Vancouver, by posting shutout to beat the Islanders 3-0.
It seemed as if the momentum (or luck for lack of a better work) had finally run out. After going six games with gaining points, and four straight victories, the Islanders fell apart and could not extend the path they were on.
Martin Biron 36 saves in a decent outing but could not get any goal support. The team seemed to be a bit off, entirely, even if they took 24 shots on goal. Islander fans of course we know that every game will not get us at least a point, but last night was a game that showed why there can still possibly be some growing pains before we can start to discuss playoffs. The New York Islanders will be a very tough team to play all year long, especially for teams within the Atlantic Division, but are still time away from being taken a little more serious.
No, I am not downplaying or tearing the Islanders a new one because of a loss, I am only stating the truth. There is a possibility of playoffs, a slight one but it’s there however, the team needs an addition or two before we can seriously state that the playoffs can be in sight.
So let’s take this season one game at a time. Let’s hope to not have 500 man games lost to injury like last season and have the potential of the club grow; one game at a time.
With tonight off, the next game for the Islanders is on the (short) road against the New Jersey Devils. All signs will point to Roloson getting the nod for Friday’s game and the team will look to rebound from the loss to Buffalo. The Devils have some serious injury issues, but when Martin Brodeur is your goalie, you will be a good team regardless. The team has every opportunity to win this contest and keep idle in the very early playoff race. It’s all up to how Scott Gordon prepares his club and how they react to the defeat.
