at todays otters game mckegg was checked in the head and didnt return.now branch wants to start cracking down this kid should be suspennded for the year.straight out dirty hit

For those of you who feel this is a clean hit, allow me to quote to Hockey Canada Rule Book (the governing body for the all no professional hockey in Canada).

Hockey Canada rule 6.2(a): “A Minor penalty or, at the discretion of the Referee, a Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty, based upon the degree of violence of the impact with the boards, shall be assessed any player who body checks, cross-checks, elbows, charges or trips an opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to be thrown violently into the boards. If a player is injured a Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty must be assessed”.

In this case the intent does not matter. According to the rule book this is an illegal hit and the suspension is definitely warranted. Hockey players need to learn to respect on another and the integrity of the game. The degree of violence displayed in this hit is not and should not be a part of a hockey game.

A marginally talented overager with a history of these kinds of hits has no place in that league. He had one intention: not to splatter anyone’s brains, but to leave him lying there. The fact that there is a puck involved is a side-bar for players like this.

ya it has to start somewhere.but shouldnt be ona clean hit.they should suspend rinaldo and nolan for the season.they 2 of the dirtiest players since downie.

Unfortunate that Fanelli turned his head at the last moment.

Liambis is being made an example of. Like Conner said, cracking down on this type of play has to happen somewhere and unfortunately for Liambis somewhere is him.

Unfortunate result to this whole sad mess that two young men have both had their lives wrecked.

I don’t blame Liambas for the hit — you’re not thinking about what you’re doing in any sport, you just react.

Nonetheless, the suspension was appropriate. Cracking down on plays like this has to happen somewhere.

Wow. Very sorry the young man is hurt. But, no intent shown, didn’t leave his feet, didn’t go to the head. This suspension is ludicrous. Mike, keep your head up. We all need to pray for Fanelli.

I personally think the suspension it was to strict, suspensions and penalties should be given on intent and the hits not the results.

If Fanelli did not get injured on the play this would not be a story.
