Sixty Minutes and extensions
Yesterday, I was complaining about how the Kings have not played a game where it was a full sixty minute performance. Last night, they proved exactly what I was attempting to get across. The Kings, in the third period, spoiled a 3 goal lead against Dallas and needed overtime to eventually get the win that they should of had in regulation time last night.
It’s been said, throughout the Kings locker room, by coach Terry Murray, and by all the Kings bloggers across the internet that this team needs to play a full sixty minutes of hockey. That is something that I feel has not been done to date.
If the Kings can play a full, intense, sixty minutes of hockey they can absolutely be a very dominating team. During one of my podcasts recently, I discussed and absolutely feel that the Kings will be a playoff team this season. The additions of Ryan Smyth and Rob Scuderi have already been paying off ten fold. With the team starting to find it’s chemistry and true identity, they are starting to get better and better with each game. If they can put this all together and get an entire game from the entire team I really feel the Kings can be dangerous.
Quick has emerged between the pipes. Yes he is young, and still a tad rusty, but with each game he is developing a better sense for his position. The team that continues to play well in front of him will continue to give Quick more confidence within the position, thus giving the team the opportunity to gain even more wins. I know, sounds a lot more simple to speak then to accomplish however, not impossible at all. Do not sleep on this Kings club this season.
A lot of positives can be spoken for, but I will save that for when the team comes out onto the ice and takes three twenty-minute sessions from their opponents. When that comes, all the glory talk comes. Until then…..
Quick Hits:
The Kings announced today that they have extended the contracts of Jonathan Quick and Davis Drewiske for 3 years each. Financial terms were not disclosed.
This is great by the organization to keep their young players in tact and keep the core together for a few more seasons. Congrats to both players.
