Brendan Shanahan a UFA

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said tonight that left wing Brendan Shanahan’s contract has been terminated and he is now an unrestricted free agent.

Lamoriello would not say if Shanahan consented to the move.

“It’s within the rules,” Lamoriello said. “That’s all I’ll say.”

Shanahan signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Devils on Aug. 5. The Devils told him on Sept. 30 that there was no room for him on the team’s top three lines and he was let go.
