Raycroft claims Canucks backup job

After saving nearly everything he saw Thursday, Andrew Raycroft can only wait to see if it was enough to save his NHL job.

It should be, if the Canucks are true to their word that jobs are won on the ice in the preseason. If this is a real competition, it would take a dramatic jaw-dropper of a game from Cory Schneider on Sunday, his last start, to trump Raycroft’s body of work this exhibition season.

To be fair, the Canucks’ backup goalie slot has long been set up to be Raycroft’s to lose. He came to Vancouver with the low cap hit (nearly $500,000 less than Schneider) and the NHL experience.
