Tanguay Mania
So Eklund sent NHL fans around the world into a frenzy when he announced that Alex Tanguay was signed by the Florida Panthers. As we all know he had it as an E5, or it being “official”. Well, Eklund has a history of E5s backfiring on him. It seems as if this one did as well. Although I do think he is right in some ways. I do believe Florida is one of the last teams in the Tanguay running, I can for sure tell all of you that Sexton has been negotiating with Tanguay’s agent on a daily basis. If I had to guess, there is common ground between the Tanguay camp and the Florida camp, but there is definitely a sticking point. Whether it be years or dollars or maybe even both.
Randy Sexton commented today that the Panthers have dollars, but they will spend them wisely. The Panthers have enough money to land Alex Tanguay at a fair dollar amount. The team has about 4 million dollars to toy with, and Sexton hinted that there are other alternatives out there on the free agent market. Perhaps thats a back up plan if the Tanguay situation goes up in smoke?
Alex Tanguay is the last big fish in free agency. His Agent wants to get paid, and so does Alex Tanguay himself. It honestly might be as simple as him waiting for a team to get real desperate, which may happen soon. But I think I speak for most all hockey fans when I say lets hope this doesn’t turn into another Mats Sundin saga.
I think you are spot on in the last paragrah. He most likely is waiting for a team to get desperate, and the Panthers are exactly that team. We are desperate, and if we don’t land Tanguay than im afraid that the franchise could quickly become a sinking ship. Last season we didnt make the playoffs even with Martin and Bouwmeester, so what are we to expect with no GM and no Bouwmeester.
ABANDON SHIP!
